When I was a teacher and I woke up sick, I pulled out my handy substitute list and started making phone calls. Sometimes I’d have to make a lot of calls before I found a willing person to take over my classes for the day. I would then email lesson plans to the school and make sure the kids had plenty of work to do so they wouldn’t torment the substitute. Now that my full time job is mom, I have no handy sub list. What’s a mom to do when she’s sick???? Well, I’ll tell you what I’ve done. I stuck it for the last two days and my wonderful husband took pity on me today and stayed home to take care of both Eli and me. As I’m writing this, I can hear Alan in the other room reading Eli his favorite story. How blessed am I? I have been sent to stay in bed and that’s where I’ve been all day. I’ve napped, read a magazine that sweet husband brought me, worked on my Bible study, and played on the computer. I definitely am thankful for the rest but there is no substitute for hugging my son, kissing his sweet little face, taking care of his needs. It used to be, when I got a day off from work I was thrilled. Not the case anymore. Motherhood changes everything!
