Most people are surprised to learn that one of my favorite tv shows is The View on ABC. I Tivo it everyday and haven’t missed an episode in years. I love it because of the segments of ‘Hot Topics” they do everyday. The cohosts on The View discuss current events including politics, entertainment, world affairs, and anything having to do with pop culture and they do so from their own world views. I watch this show and actively join in their conversation. That’s right-I talk to the tv. Sometimes I yell when I really get riled up. It is really important that as Christian women we know what is going on in the world and formulate our view through the filter of God’s Word. Ultimately it doesn’t matter what we think anyway. The main question we should be asking ourselves is, “What does the Bible say on this matter?” The problem with asking this question to ourselves is in order to answer it we must be studying God’s Word on a daily basis. How else can we know what the Bible says? Why rely on what others teach us when we have the abiltiy to read and study ourselves. As I said in an earlier post (Baby Food) as we mature as Christians we don’t need to rely on someone to feed us the Word. We should be feeding ourselves. Because I’m a stay at home mom, I don’t often have the opportunity to get into philosophical worldview debates with other women, so I take the opportunity every day to debate with the ladies from the View. This keeps my debating skills sharp and if ever in a situation where I need to defend my beliefs I’ll be ready. There are a lot of ideas out there that sound good. They might even sound spiritual. But if you don’t know what the Word of God says it is so easy to be deceived. Ephesisans 4:14 says
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
As we mature in our faith and study God’s Word we can develop our beliefs, form opinions from a Biblical worldview, and not be confused by ideas, pop culture issues, politics, and persuasive and charasmatic speakers. We base our opinions on the Solid Rock, the Word of God, that is absolute truth for all people, in all places, in all times. That’s not just my view, that’s the truth.
