It’s a matter of role: A Biblical Perspective

There’s been a lot of talk this political season about sexism and the rights and roles of women.  It should be no surprise to anyone that the National Organization for Women (NOW) has officially endorsed Barack Obama this week.  They don’t normally make political endorsements however they felt that in this particular election that needed to because they are so strongly against the McCain-Palin ticket.   NOW president Kim Gandy said in an article, “…being a strong woman doesn’t necessarily make you strong on women’s rights.”  The fundamental difference between the left and the right on the issue of women’s rights boils down to a major worldview difference.  As a Christian woman I can assure you that NOW does not represent me or many other women in this country.  The truth is, I formulate my beliefs about womens issues from God’s Word.  Therefore NOW or any other feminist leader in America does not and can not speak for me.  I doubt that I am alone in this sentiment.

Feminist activist and writer Gloria Steinem said, “Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with (Hillary)Clinton.”  If she is talking about the way in which they see the world, I actually would agree with her.  Each side sees the world through their own philosophical filter, however, only a Biblical worldview is based on truth.

When God created man and woman, he created them as equal but with very different roles.  I have to emphasize that both genders were created in the image of God, equally loved and valued.  It’s not a matter of equality, its a matter of role.
