Women and chickens

While watching TV last night I realized that the only thing that Ashley Judd and I have in common is that we both have two X-chromosome and we both love Kentucky basketball.  Beyond that, our paths do not seem to intersect at all.  Why would I be analyzing the similarities between me and a Hollywood movie starlet?  When I heard her comment it really got me thinking.

Judd says, “McCain has a zero record on voting against women’s privacy and reproductive health. Senator Obama has a 100 percent voting record for women’s privacy and reproductive health,” she said. “And the only reason that McCain has a zero is organizations like Planned Parenthood couldn’t find a lower number. And a woman voting for McCain and Palin is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.”

Let me say a brief word about the first part of her statement.  John McCain is pro-life and his voting record will reflect that so it is no surprise to me that Planned Parenthood would rate him low on this voting record.  Planned Parenthood fights for a woman’s right to chose what she will do with her own body in regards to reproduction.  I am all about our rights as Americans, but at the core of the fight between pro-choice and pro-life is a very differing worldview.  If you come to the argument as I do, then you have a Biblical worldview and look at this issue through the filter of God’s Word.  Because I believe that God knit us together in our mother’s womb according to the passage in Psalm, then I believe that God was involved in the creation of that life from the beginning.  I believe that life begins at conception.  Based on this belief it should make sense that I view abortion as murder.  However, not all people approach the subject by looking at the Bible and therefore there are two sides to the issue.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion and even though I disagree with the other side, I do not feel the need to insult them or belittle them.  We don’t see eye to eye on the subject because of our differing worldviews, not because they are stupid.  But the last part of Ashely Judd’s comment really insulted me.

“ And a woman voting for McCain and Palin is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.”

First of all, not all women are pro-choice.  I know a lot of women on the other side of this issue.  The pro-life movement is not led by a bunch of men who want to control women and their uterus.  People who are pro-life have a worldview that leads them to the conclusion that abortion is wrong.  We are not stupid.  A chicken who would choose to go to the slaughter is stupid and Ms. Judd is comparing women who vote for McCain to a chicken who blindly shows up at the door of KFC.  Her logic is ridiculous and insulting.

If I continue to pay to see Ashley Judd movies which enable her to buy season tickets to Kentucky basketball games, then I truly am as dumb as a chicken who votes for Colonel Sanders.

And don’t you love how she hides behind words like “reproductive health” and “women’s privacy” instead of just saying “abortion”? I cannot STAND her.
