The wise in heart accept commands,
but a chattering fool comes to ruin. Proverbs 10:8
Have you heard about Bill Maher’s new movie “Religulous?” Apparently it is a total mockery of God, the Bible, and anyone who believes. I saw him yesterday on The View, where he mocked the two co-hosts who believe in the Bible. He sat on the couch with a smug grin, spouting his obvious ignorance concerning the Bible. He was shocked that 60% of Americans believe in the Genesis account of Noah as an actual event. He then mocked co-host Sherri Shepard when she said she was part of that 60% and referred to her as irrational. When Sherri said that she talks to God and He talks to her he said that they needed to contact an institution because she was hearing voices. He showed complete ignorance in his retelling of Noah’s story, saying that Noah would have to get every species that ever existed on the ark. Anyone with any science knowledge could tell you that you wouldn’t have to get all the species we have today, you would only have to gather one kind of that animal. For instance, you wouldn’t have to gather EVERY species of dog, you would just have to have the dog kind. That was just one example of his total lack of knowledge concerning Scripture and genetics.
He also said that faith in God equaled a suspension of critical thinking skills. Excuse me? Are you serious? Here is another example of a celebrity who isn’t satisified with having a differing opinion on a subject. Satisfaction only comes when you insult the intellegence of the other side. As he was babbling, I thought of a few verses.
Fools care nothing for thoughtful discourse;
all they do is run off at the mouth. Proverbs 18:2
Remember how the enemy has mocked you, O LORD,
how foolish people have reviled your name. Psalm 74:18
6The senseless man does not know,
fools do not understand,
7 that though the wicked spring up like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they will be forever destroyed.
8 But you, O LORD, are exalted forever Psalm 92:6-8
I guess Bill Maher should laugh it up while he can, because the day will come when all will know the truth, including Mr. Maher. As I watched the show I found myself wishing for a little Old Testament justice. You know, the ground could open up and swallow him or fire from heaven could consume him. I guess Mr. Maher is lucky that our God is a God of grace and mercy. But He is also just and He’s coming again. And then there will nothing for the fools to chatter about.
