Injustice

My husband says that if I was a superhero that I would be Injustice Girl.  I tend to agree with him, especially if I had some super power where I could zap those who inflict injustice on the world.  And its not even the huge world events that rile me up the most, it’s the small things.  Here is an example.

Several weeks ago my husband was in a car accident.  The two driver side tires where busted so we had the car towed to the dealership where I bought the car several years ago.  We paid them $55.00 to do an evaluation of the damage, tell us what needed to be fixed, and give us an estimate on parts and labor.  Their report listed several items damaged on the bottom of the car that would need to be replaced.  Their estimate on parts was $1200 and labor was $1800.  I’m sure you can imagine that the news of $3000 dollars worth of repairs was a bit stressful.  In addition to this we’d still have to purchase tires.  Usually I freak out over these types of financial woes, but this time I was so relieved that my husband wasn’t injured, I wasn’t worried about the money at all.

My husband immediately began to figure out ways to save money.  First of all, he found a company where he could order the parts from at a considerably lower cost.  Then, we asked a friend of ours who is a mechanic if he’d be willing to do the work.  He agreed to do it, and after we got all the parts in, we had it towed to his house.  Upon inspection, he found that several of the parts that the dealership told us needed to be replaced were actually just fine and did not need to be replaced.

Praise the Lord!!!!!  But wait….We have already purchased the parts because we paid the dealership to tell us what needed to be replaced and we ordered parts based on the report provided to us.  We can return the parts, but the cost of shipping is $75.00 and there is a 25% restocking fee. (Whatever that is!)  So we are out several hundred dollars because of a false report from the dealership.  Did I mention we paid $55.00 for their wonderful expertise?

Upon first contact with the dealership, they have said that they are sorry, but the report was just an estimate based on a visual inspection and they can not be held responsible for it.  Watch out, because Injustice Girl has just put on her cape.  I’m so sorry, but that’s not good enough.  We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I will call a supervisor on Monday.  I am on a mission to get the money they caused me to lose and Injustice Girl hopes to prevail.  I’ll keep you posted.
