Happy Election Day!  No matter who your candidate is, I hope everyone prayerfully made an informed decision and VOTED.  Election day always makes me a little prouder to be an American.  We truly live in a great nation.

I’ve been watching election coverage today, which is no surprise to anyone who knows me.  One reporter talked to two adult women who were first time voters and they said they had voted for Barack Obama because he would bring hope back to our nation.  I’ve seen t-shirts and posters with Obama’s face on them with the phrase HOPE underneath.  I will never forget the 2004 keynote speech that Barack Obama delivered at the Democratic National Convention entitled “The Audacity of Hope,” followed up by a book with the same title.

Don’t think that I have a problem with the concept of hope.  I’m just wondering where we are getting our hope from.  According to Scripture our hope comes from only one source.

 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
       my hope comes from him.  (Psalm 62:5)

May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.
(Psalm 119:74)

You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. (Psalm 119:114)

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, (Psalm 146:5)

I promise that this is not a slam on Obama.  I just want everyone to put this idea of hope in a Biblical framework.  According to the Word of God our hope is to be in the Lord and His Word.  We, as a people, need to be very careful when we begin to put our hope in people.  People are fallible and will let us down, no matter how well intentioned they are.  Save your hope for the One who will never leave you and never forsake you.  Remember, that he has a plan for hope in our lives.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  (Jeremiah 29:11)

This verse gives me great comfort and is truly a hope I can believe in!

I’m off to watch the election results.  I’m so proud to be an American!  After the election is over, what in the world will have to blog about.  I’ll get back to you on that…..
